Welcome to KSM SOLAR
PV solar bolts and nuts are specialized fasteners designed to assemble and secure solar module mounting systems. Their defining characteristics include corrosion resistance, vibration resistance, compatibility with aluminum structures, and the ability to maintain clamping force over a 25+ year lifespan under extreme environmental conditions .
Structural Load Transfer: Bolts and nuts are the mechanical links that transfer loads (gravity, wind uplift, snow) between components—clamps to rails, rails to L-feet, and modules to clamps .
Clamping Force Maintenance: The primary engineering challenge is maintaining adequate clamping force (preload) over decades despite thermal expansion/contraction and vibration .
Dissimilar Metal Management: Solar systems often join aluminum components with steel fasteners. Bolts and nuts must be designed to manage galvanic corrosion risks at these interfaces .
Stainless Steel (Most Common): The vast majority of PV fasteners are manufactured from stainless steel, typically A2 (304) or A4 (316) grade .
A2 (304): Suitable for most environments, including standard outdoor exposure .
A4 (316): "Marine grade" with higher molybdenum content for enhanced corrosion resistance in coastal, industrial, or high-humidity environments .
Carbon Steel with Coating: Less common in premium systems, but used in budget applications. Requires high-quality anti-corrosion coatings (e.g, Dacromet, hot-dip galvanizing) .
