Welcome to KSM SOLAR
This mounting solution is engineered for flexibility. It serves as an adaptable interface between a solar mounting structure and various metal roof profiles (such as standing seam, trapezoidal, corrugated, or ribbed panels) without requiring roof penetration or profile-specific tooling.
Zero Roof Penetration: The system attaches without drilling, preserving roof integrity and warranties.
Profile Agnosticism: The defining characteristic is the clamp's ability to conform to different roof geometries. Instead of a fixed flange engineered for a specific seam, the clamp features movable components that adjust to grip various rib heights, widths, and angles.
Friction and Form-Fit Hybrid: Universal clamps often rely on a combination of high-compression friction (using deep-serrated or high-durometer rubber pads) and a loose form-fit (using adjustable hooks) to secure themselves to the roof.
The "universal" nature is achieved through mechanical adjustability.
Pivoting Jaw Design: The clamp consists of two halves connected by a pivot pin. As the main bolt is tightened, the bottom of the jaws close around the roof seam, while the top of the jaws open to receive a rail or module. This scissor-like action allows it to accommodate varying seam widths.
Swiveling Pressure Plates: Instead of fixed flanges, the contact surfaces are often swiveling or ball-jointed pads. These pads self-align to the specific angle of the roof panel (e.g., a flat pan vs. a sloped rib), ensuring full surface contact and preventing point-loading that could dent the metal.
Interchangeable Inserts: Some systems use a universal clamp body with replaceable polymer or aluminum inserts. The installer selects an insert that roughly matches the roof profile (e.g., "curved for corrugated" or "flat for trapezoidal") and snaps it into the clamp jaws before installation.
Reduced Inventory: For solar distributors and installation companies, this is a major logistical advantage. Instead of stocking 20 different clamps for 20 different roof types, a single universal clamp model can cover 90% of metal roof projects.
On-Roof Adaptability: If an installer encounters an unexpected roof profile or a variation in seam height across the same roof, the universal clamp can adjust on the fly. There is no need to stop work to procure a different specific clamp.
Forgiveness for Imperfections: Old or re-purposed metal roofs are rarely perfectly uniform. Universal clamps, with their wide adjustment range and swiveling pads, can grip onto seams that are slightly bent, tapered, or non-prismatic, where a rigid, profile-specific clamp might fail to seat properly.
