Welcome to KSM SOLAR
An aluminum alloy ballast system is a non-penetrating mounting solution designed primarily for flat or low-slope roofs. Its defining feature is the aluminum alloy frame construction—typically consisting of triangular supports, mounting rails, and integrated ballast trays—which provides a lightweight, corrosion-resistant structure that relies on gravitational weight (ballast) to resist wind uplift and overturning forces .
Non-Penetrating Attachment: The system relies entirely on gravitational ballast—typically concrete blocks, pavers, or gravel placed in trays or on base beams—to resist wind uplift and sliding forces. This eliminates any roof penetrations, preserving the integrity and warranty of the waterproofing membrane .
Load Distribution: The frame distributes the combined weight of the modules and ballast evenly across the roof surface through wide base plates or protective pads, preventing concentrated point loads that could damage the roofing membrane .
Optimized Tilt Angle: The system elevates modules off the roof surface at an optimized tilt angle (typically 5° to 15° for flat roofs) to maximize energy production while maintaining a low profile for wind load management .
Modular, Scalable Design: Aluminum ballast systems are inherently modular, allowing arrays to be configured in any size and easily expanded by adding additional frame units .
High-Strength Aluminum Alloys: The primary structural components are manufactured from corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys, most commonly AL6005-T5.
6005-T5: Offers excellent strength (yield strength ~215 MPa) for structural integrity in load-bearing members .
Lightweight: Aluminum's density (2.7 g/cm³) is approximately one-third of steel, making components easier to handle and install on rooftops .
