Welcome to KSM SOLAR
An aluminum alloy back-to-back ballast system is a non-penetrating mounting solution designed primarily for flat commercial and industrial roofs. Its defining feature is the dual-row configuration where two rows of solar modules are mounted on opposing triangular frames that share a common central ballast beam, creating a highly stable, space-efficient structure that relies on gravitational weight for wind uplift resistance .
Non-Penetrating Attachment: The system relies entirely on gravitational ballast—typically concrete blocks placed in trays or on base beams—to resist wind uplift and overturning forces. This eliminates any roof penetrations, preserving the integrity and warranty of the waterproofing membrane .
Back-to-Back Structural Configuration: Two triangular (A-frame) support structures are arranged in opposing orientation, sharing a common central ballast beam. This creates a self-balancing system where the weight of one row helps counterbalance wind loads on the opposite row, improving overall stability .
Space Optimization: The back-to-back design maximizes module density on the roof by minimizing the spacing required between rows, as the opposing modules shade each other less than traditional same-facing arrays .
The defining architectural feature is the paired, opposing arrangement:
Two Opposing Triangular Frames: Each side of the system consists of a triangular support structure with front and rear legs .
East-Facing Row: Modules tilted toward the east (morning sun optimization).
West-Facing Row: Modules tilted toward the west (afternoon sun optimization).
Shared Central Ballast Beam: A common horizontal beam runs along the center of the system, serving multiple functions:
Provides the attachment point for the rear legs of both opposing frames .
Contains or supports the primary ballast materials .
Transfers loads between the two frames for mutual stabilization .
