Welcome to KSM SOLAR
A ground-mounted U-section steel photovoltaic system with portrait (vertical) module orientation represents a highly engineered, structurally optimized solar racking solution for utility-scale and commercial solar projects. This system combines the unique structural characteristics of cold-formed U-section steel profiles with portrait module configuration to maximize land utilization, structural efficiency, and installation precision.
Distinctive Module Layout: In portrait (vertical) orientation, solar panels are installed with their long axis perpendicular to the ground and their short axis horizontal. This configuration fundamentally changes the load path and support requirements compared to landscape orientation.
Multi-Level Support Structure: The portrait-orientation U-section system employs a hierarchical support structure:
Primary Structure (Columns): Vertical U-section posts (front and rear) anchored to foundations
Secondary Structure (Rafters/Beams): U-section purlins running along the slope direction
Tertiary Structure (U-Channel Purlins): U-section profiles mounted perpendicular to rafters, spaced to match module dimensions
Integrated Mechanical Interlock: Patented connection systems eliminate or reduce fastener requirements through mechanical interlocking features:
Flange notches positioned to accept module frame protrusions, providing positive location without additional hardware
Dimpled engagement features where module frame features snap into matching recesses in the U-section flanges
Hybrid Fastening Options: Depending on module frame design, multiple connection methods are available:
Bolt-down connection: For module frames with internal reinforcement ribs, U-section purlins are pre-drilled and accept integrated bolt assemblies with captive hardware
Snap-in connection: For module frames with formed dimples/embossments, these engage with mating features in the U-section flanges for tool-free installation
Combination connection: Both snap-in positioning and supplementary bolting for maximum security in high-wind zones
Universal Fastener Strategy: All field connections utilize standard stainless steel fasteners with minimal variety—typically only 2-3 fastener types and 2-3 tools required for complete installation.
